So, i was doing a presentation on schizophrenia on Monday and I came across this image. These are paintings by an 19th century artist named Louis Wain (check him out, he draws anthropomorphic cats, which is just awesome).
He was institutionalized due to schizophrenia-like symptoms. Psychiatry textbooks commonly use these images to show Wain’s decline into the psychotic state. Interesting and awesome, right? Well, not exactly. These aren’t in known chronological order, so it’s unknown if it’s an actual linear progression of time or just alterations in his artistic style.
In any event, I appreciate the idea.
